Caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that relations between Albanians and Americans are unique and date back long before the last war in Kosovo, highlighting the historic role of the Albanian diaspora in strengthening these ties.
Kurti made the remarks during a meeting at his office with a group of visitors from California, Washington, the Isle of Man, and Bulgaria, who are visiting Kosovo as part of the “Ethno Tour 2026” program, organized by anthropologist Janet Reineck.
According to Kurti, the relationship between Albanians and Americans “has been special not only since the end of the last century and the liberation war, but since the arrival of the first Albanian immigrants to the United States in the 19th century.” He added that this history led to the establishment of the Pan-Albanian Federation of America “Vatra” in Boston in 1912.
“From the support of President Woodrow Wilson to the influence of the Albanian priest and intellectual in exile, Fan Noli, our diaspora has played a key role in building and preserving this valuable connection,” Kurti wrote, according to Rks News.
He emphasized that during the meeting with Janet Reineck, they also discussed Kosovo’s progress and the role of the Albanian diaspora.
“Our beloved diaspora are our great ambassadors, always returning to their homeland and promoting it,” the caretaker prime minister said.
According to Kurti, during the meeting with participants of “Ethno Tour 2026”, who are professionals in fields such as environmental engineering, urban planning, healthcare, education, and information technology, discussions also covered human rights, culture, education, elderly care services, agriculture, and the economy.
