Serb List has alleged that members of the Kosovo Police brutally assaulted a Serb citizen in the village of Dren in Zubin Potok, while the Kosovo Police said it had no information confirming the allegations and that the case would be referred to the Kosovo Police Inspectorate for review.
According to Serb List, the alleged incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, August 11. Citing the account of Nenad Rashković, the party claimed that Kosovo Police officers entered his family home and, after conducting a search, began beating him without justification.
Serb List further alleged that Rashković was taken to a nearby wooded area, tied to a tree and beaten with a water hose, causing multiple injuries and, according to preliminary information cited by the party, possible broken ribs.
The party also claimed that Rashković said the officers demanded that he admit to having committed war crimes against Albanians during the Kosovo war.
“After that, Nenad was left tied to a tree. With the help of friends, he was freed and taken to the Family Medicine Center in Zubin Potok and later to the Clinical Hospital Center in Mitrovicë e Veriut, where he remains under medical observation,” Serb List said.
Serb List called on the international community, KFOR and EULEX to urgently examine the allegations and take action within their respective mandates to establish the facts and ensure the safety and rights of citizens.
The party also called for an urgent, independent and comprehensive investigation and for anyone found responsible to be held accountable.
Veton Elshani, deputy director of the Mitrovicë e Veriut Regional Police Directorate, told KALLXO.com that authorities had not received information confirming that police officers had used violence against anyone.
“We do not have any information regarding this matter that the police used violence against someone. However, the media have begun reporting on it, and the Kosovo Police Inspectorate will be invited to deal with the case and assess the allegations,” Elshani said.
The allegations come amid ongoing investigations and excavations in the Zubin Potok area related to suspected war-era mass graves.
The Kosovo Special Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that human remains belonging to victims of the Kosovo war have been identified at a third suspected location in Zubin Potok. Investigations and forensic procedures are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Excavations have also been conducted in Kalludër e Vogël, where several human remains were reportedly found, as well as in Jabukë, where the remains of four people were exhumed on August 3.
Initial assessments by the Government Commission on Missing Persons indicated that the remains could belong to people forcibly disappeared during the Kosovo war.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office had ordered excavations in Kalludër e Vogël on July 28 amid suspicions that the area could contain a mass grave containing victims of the war.
Several arrests have been made in connection with the broader investigation. One of those detained is Jugosllav Radojević, who is suspected of crimes against the civilian population. A Prishtina court ordered one month of detention, from August 2 to September 1.
According to court allegations cited by KALLXO.com, Radojević is suspected of involvement in the disappearance and alleged killing of 23 intellectuals in the Zubin Potok area during the Kosovo war.
The allegations of police abuse have not been independently verified, and the Kosovo Police Inspectorate is expected to assess the claims.
