The new European Union Ambassador to Kosovo, Dirk Schübel, has begun his diplomatic mission with a meeting with the United States Chargé d’Affaires in Kosovo, Anu Prattipati.
The meeting marked Schübel’s first engagements with Kosovo’s key international partners as he takes up his new role.
Following the meeting, Schübel underlined his commitment to close cooperation with the United States and reaffirmed the EU’s support for Kosovo.
“I look forward to our cooperation. We are here to support Kosovo,” Schübel said.
The meeting highlights the importance of close coordination between the EU and the United States on issues concerning Kosovo’s European future, political stability and institutional development.
Schübel officially began his mandate as EU Ambassador and EU Special Representative for Kosovo on September 1, succeeding Aivo Orav.
His arrival comes at a politically sensitive moment for Kosovo, with the country facing an institutional deadlock and continued international pressure to accelerate the formation of functioning institutions and advance reforms.
The new EU envoy has signalled that cooperation with Kosovo’s institutions, political actors and international partners will be a central part of his mandate.
The opening meeting with the US representative therefore sends a clear diplomatic message: Brussels and Washington intend to remain closely engaged in supporting Kosovo and its European and Euro-Atlantic path.
