The Kosovo Police have rejected reports circulating in several media outlets claiming that Kosovo is being “heavily fortified” ahead of the Hague verdict and that police preparations for September 16 have been disclosed.
In a statement issued on September 13, the Kosovo Police said that security planning and the implementation of measures ahead of anticipated developments, public activities, or large gatherings are part of standard police procedures.
The police explained that similar measures were taken during the peaceful solidarity march held on September 12, 2026, as well as during other public gatherings and activities. Such measures are intended to ensure the safe management of gatherings, maintain public order and security, regulate road traffic, and guarantee the smooth conduct of planned activities.
According to the Kosovo Police, security assessments also take into account the possibility that certain individuals or groups, including those from outside Kosovo, could attempt to exploit large gatherings for provocations, incidents, or destabilizing actions.
The police emphasized that these are preventive and standard measures, applied according to the expected number of participants and the overall assessment of the security situation.
The Kosovo Police called on citizens and media outlets to rely exclusively on official information and avoid spreading unverified claims, particularly when such reports could affect perceptions of public safety and create unnecessary concern.
The statement comes ahead of September 16, when a verdict is expected in the Hague proceedings involving former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders.
