An alarming incident occurred at Monastir Airport in Tunisia, where a Serbian national told a flight attendant that he was a terrorist and had a bomb with him. The incident led to the evacuation of passengers and a full security inspection of the aircraft.
The incident occurred last night at the airport in the city of Monastir, while preparations were underway for a charter flight operated by Air Serbia.
According to Serbian media reports, during the boarding process, the Serbian national approached a flight attendant and stated that he was a terrorist and had a bomb in his possession.
The statement immediately prompted a response from security authorities. The man was arrested before passengers were evacuated and the aircraft was searched.
Passengers were removed from the plane while security forces carried out a thorough inspection of the aircraft to determine whether any explosive device was present.
Footage from the airport was also published on the Instagram profile “moj_beo_grad,” showing the aircraft being inspected after the passengers had been evacuated.
Serbian media report that the Serbian national was under the influence of alcohol and that his claim about the bomb was allegedly made as a “joke.”
Nevertheless, authorities took the statement seriously and activated security procedures in response to a potential bomb threat.
As a result of the incident, the flight was significantly delayed. The aircraft, which was scheduled to depart at 7:50 p.m., eventually took off from Monastir at 12:05 a.m. local time.
Tunisian authorities are expected to continue legal proceedings against the Serbian national, while the incident once again highlights the strict security measures in place at international airports, where even a “joke” about a bomb can result in an evacuation, a full aircraft search, and significant flight delays.
