Miloš Vučević, president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), has commented on the election defeat suffered by his party and Aleksandar Vučić.
Speaking to Serbian media, he said he was dissatisfied with the parliamentary election results but proud of the way Vučić accepted the defeat, Index.hr reported, as cited by Telegrafi.
Vučević announced changes within the SNS and said the party would become a strong opposition force against the new government.
He also revealed what happened when Vučić learned that his electoral list had lost the election.
“Ana (Brnabić) and I arrived, and he said: ‘We lost the election.’ We were surprised because we had been leading until then, but the sample was not large enough. He already had the results. He said it was important to address the public as soon as possible,” Vučević recalled.
He explained that the party had its own election logistics network and data from polling stations, and that results from a representative sample showed there was no longer any chance of winning.
Vučić announced that the SNS would not disappear from the political scene despite losing power after 14 years.
“We will not break up or disband. We will refresh our ranks. These will be painful but healing changes,” he said.
According to Vučević, the SNS would consolidate and prepare to operate in opposition. He added that his party would neither challenge the election results nor obstruct the transfer of power.
