Kosovo marks 11 years since signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the European Union on October 27, 2015, in Strasbourg, a milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen its political, legal and economic ties with the bloc.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Kosovo by then-Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and was regarded as an important step toward closer integration with the European Union.
The SAA establishes a framework for cooperation between Kosovo and the EU, supporting political dialogue, economic relations and the alignment of Kosovo’s legislation and institutions with European standards.
It also requires progress in strengthening governance, the rule of law and the role of civil society in line with EU principles.
Although the agreement marked a significant step in Kosovo’s European integration process, the country continues to face challenges on its path toward EU membership.
Kosovo remains outside the European Union, and its progress toward accession continues to depend on reforms and further engagement with EU institutions.
