Prishtina, Kosovo — The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, hosted a regular meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, yesterday.

According to an official statement, the meeting included discussions about President Osmani’s participation in activities related to the NATO Summit, following invitations from U.S. President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“President Osmani appreciated the U.S. invitation and Kosovo’s presence in these key Summit activities as a strategic development beneficial for advancing and maintaining peace and security in the region and beyond. She emphasized the positive impact that Kosovo’s NATO membership would have on sustainable and long-term peace and security,” the statement from the President’s Office said.

Furthermore, the statement noted that Osmani and Ambassador Hovenier discussed her recent meetings with senior U.S. officials and concrete steps to be taken in the future regarding the coordination of actions in favor of Kosovo’s interests and its partnership with the U.S.

“Speaking about recent developments in the country, President Osmani expressed concern over the recent decision by the Council of the European Union to remove the visa regime for Kosovo citizens holding illegal Serbian passports. She highlighted that this decision negatively affects the rule of law across Kosovo and undermines efforts to integrate the Serbian community in Kosovo,” the statement continued.

Osmani and Hovenier also discussed a range of legal initiatives currently being addressed by the institutions, reaffirming the importance of ensuring the highest standards of human rights and adherence to democratic principles.
