Canada’s Department of National Defence has announced that Ukraine is free to use weapons donated by Ottawa on Russian territory.
“The Ukrainians know best how to defend their homeland, and we are committed to supporting their capacity,” said department spokesperson Andee-Anne Poulin, as reported by BBC.
Canada’s permission follows the release of a video allegedly showing a Canadian-made patrol vehicle entering Russian territory.
“Canada does not impose geographical restrictions on the use of military equipment that we donate to Ukraine,” added spokesperson Poulin.
Canada has committed $4.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion. This includes tanks, drones, anti-aircraft artillery, ammunition, missiles, and armored vehicles.
A day earlier, the UK Ministry of Defence stated that Ukraine has the right to use British weapons for self-defense, a position that remains unchanged even after Labour leader Keir Starmer became Prime Minister, signaling that these weapons could also be used in Russia.
