Croatian MEP Davor Stier (HDZ) has been elected chair of the European Parliament delegation for relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Kosovo.
In his statement, Stier emphasizes that he will pay special attention to the European perspective of both countries and the reforms that need to be implemented on the path to the EU.
As the chair of the European Parliament delegation, Stier will co-chair the joint parliamentary committees: the Parliamentary Committee for Stabilization and Association between the EU and BiH, and the Parliamentary Committee for Stabilization and Association between the EU and Kosovo.
“After receiving candidate status, BiH now has the opportunity to achieve and fulfill its reform agenda, which is in the interest of the constituent peoples and citizens of BiH and the European Union itself,” said Stier, announcing plans to hold a session of the joint parliamentary committee as early as next month.
He also indicated that he will work on the European perspective of Kosovo.
“Peace, security, dialogue, and the normalization of relations with Serbia, the protection of minority rights and all citizens of Kosovo, as well as the implementation of constitutional order throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo will be priority issues in our joint work,” stated Stier.
He added that the geopolitical challenges facing the EU require a stronger commitment in Southeast Europe, and that in this regard, stability and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo are of vital importance for the entire continent.
