Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused the country’s main opposition party of being “responsible for injuring police officers in the attacks by vandals.”

According to BBC, Erdogan called for the protests to stop, adding that “the opposition should not play with the nerves of the people.”

He further criticized the opposition, stating, “Instead of responding to accusations of corruption, theft, bribery, and extortion, they have made the most vile and illegal statements in our political history over the past five days.”

“Do not disturb the peace of our citizens with provocations.”

Erdogan concluded by saying, “I believe that if the opposition has any respect left, they will be ashamed of the harm they have caused to the country.”
