The Pakistani armed forces have launched “multiple attacks” using drones and other munitions along India’s western border from Thursday evening into Friday morning, the Indian military has reported, as tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors escalate, Rks News reports.
The violence intensified following an Indian strike on Wednesday targeting what it called “terrorist camps” within Pakistani territory. This operation was carried out in retaliation for a deadly attack last month in the disputed Kashmir region, which Indian authorities claim was orchestrated by Islamabad.
Pakistan has denied any involvement in the attack. However, cross-border clashes between the two sides have escalated, involving exchanges of gunfire and drone incursions into each other’s airspace, resulting in at least 40 fatalities so far.
According to the Indian military, Pakistani troops committed “multiple ceasefire violations” along the Line of Control in Kashmir. “The drone attacks were effectively repelled, and the ceasefire violations were met with appropriate response,” the military stated, adding that “all attacks will be met with force,” as reported by Reuters.
Meanwhile, Islamabad has denied carrying out attacks in the Indian city of Pathankot (Punjab), in Srinagar (Kashmir Valley), and in Jaisalmer (Rajasthan), dismissing the allegations as “baseless” and “politically motivated.”
