Despite a meeting between the Municipality of Prishtina and the waste management company “Pastrimi,” the garbage crisis in the capital remains unresolved. The situation continues to affect citizens directly, as no agreement was reached during Monday’s discussions.
Reports of an agreement were denied by Bekim Brestovci, Director of the Municipal Inspectorate, who clarified that the municipality has expressed readiness to sign a €1.5 million contract for secondary waste collection. “We reaffirmed our willingness to sign the €1.5 million contract with ‘Pastrimi’ for additional garbage collection services,” Brestovci told Indeksonline.
However, due to continued inaction from the company, Brestovci announced that the municipality is preparing a criminal complaint against the CEO of “Pastrimi,” Petrit Reçica. “We are preparing to file a criminal report against the company’s chief. It would’ve been better if someone else had come to sign the contract,” he added.
Brestovci assured that the waste will be cleared by Saturday at the latest, stating that two new economic operators have been contracted to remove the garbage across Prishtina. “This week, we must return the situation to point zero,” he emphasized.
The union of “Pastrimi” workers also confirmed that no agreement was reached during Monday’s meeting with municipal representatives a meeting which Mayor Përparim Rama did not attend.
