The Basic Court in Peja has issued measures against two high-ranking police officials, Prek Tunaj and Nexhat Gutiq, ordering them not to approach the Regional Police Directorate in Peja or any police officers and witnesses involved in the case of businessman Sali Devolli. Both officials have also been suspended from their duties within the Kosovo Police.

Tunaj and Gutiq were arrested after KALLXO.com reported suspicions that they influenced the release of businessman Sali Devolli. Devolli had been arrested for allegedly verbally assaulting police officers, but was later released with only a misdemeanor ticket, and the Peja Prosecutor’s Office was reportedly not notified of the incident.

The two officials are suspected of abuse of official position. The court, after a hearing on June 22, found sufficient grounds to impose the restrictive measures, arguing that allowing them access could obstruct the criminal procedure.

KALLXO.com’s investigation revealed that on May 28, 2025, Sali Devolli was detained after allegedly verbally abusing police officers who were responding to a traffic accident. Devolli reportedly refused to present his documents and used offensive language. Despite the verbal assault, which is punishable by law, the case was only referred as a misdemeanor, and the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed they had received no information about the incident.

Further details from KALLXO.com suggest that after Devolli was brought to the police station, Tunaj and Gutiq allegedly intervened, released him, and instructed officers not to pursue the case further. The Kosovo Police Inspectorate (IPK) has initiated a preliminary investigation into the matter, confirming that two police officials are suspected of “abuse of official position or authority” for allegedly interfering with Devolli’s case.
