Japanese authorities have executed Takahiro Shiraishi, 34, notoriously known as the “Twitter Killer.” He was sentenced to death in 2017 for the murder of nine people.
The execution was carried out at the prison where he was held awaiting the implementation of the judicial decision.
Shiraishi shocked public opinion in Japan after it was revealed he had used the social media platform Twitter to lure victims, most of whom were young women. He would invite them to his apartment, where he would then kill them. Investigators discovered nine dismembered bodies in his home in Zama, a city near Tokyo.
He was found guilty of a series of crimes, including multiple murders, robbery, and sexual assault. The Tokyo District Court sentenced him to death in late 2020, and the sentence became final after his lawyer withdrew the appeal in 2021.
