Following the groundbreaking ceremony for two new bridges over the Ibar River, Zlatan Elek, the head of the Serb List (Lista Serbe), has strongly reacted. He states that Serbs oppose this decision, arguing the bridges won’t symbolize unity but rather division and separation.

Elek announced that the Serb List is launching a petition against the bridge construction, which citizens can sign starting Monday in front of the party’s headquarters.

Appeal to International Community and Claims of Exclusion

“These days, we’ve had intensive discussions with representatives of the international community, and we expect a more serious response from them to this obvious provocation from Pristina. Ultimately, the duty of the international community is to ensure peace for every citizen, and I hope they’ll succeed in this,” Elek stated, as reported by Kossev.

He added that they weren’t consulted or asked about the construction of the new bridges and emphasized that all Serbs oppose it.

“We all know very well that the bridge over the Ibar is a symbol of the suffering of the Serbian people, who saved the north of Kosovo with their lives, as well as the image of the international community that constantly speaks of multi-ethnicity,” he said. “At the same time, we made it clear to everyone that we weren’t consulted or asked about the construction of a new bridge, and we emphasized that all Serbs are against it. Therefore, we launched a petition, which our citizens can sign from Monday in front of the Serb List headquarters.”
