Kosovo: Electricity Prices Increase by 17.8% in June, Overall Inflation at 4.3%

The overall Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) in Kosovo rose by an average of 4.3% in June 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, according to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS). One of the most significant contributors to this increase was electricity, which saw a 17.8% year-on-year price hike.

The monthly inflation rate for June 2025 stood at 0.7%, indicating a continued upward trend in consumer costs.

KAS attributes the annual increase primarily to rising prices in several key COICOP groups and subgroups:

  • Coffee, tea, and cocoa: +18.2%
  • Electricity: +17.8%
  • Fruits: +14.8%
  • Package holidays: +13.3%
  • Meat: +12.8%
  • Other transport-related services: +10.4%
  • Oils and fats: +9.7%
  • Hotel services: +7.7%
  • Vegetables: +7.2%
  • Outpatient services: +7.1%
  • Household maintenance goods/services: +6.7%
  • Newspapers, books, and stationery: +6.4%
  • Alcoholic beverages: +6.4%
  • Milk, cheese, and eggs: +5.7%
  • Mineral water and non-alcoholic drinks: +5.4%
  • Financial services: +5.2%
  • Personal care: +4.9%
  • Bread and cereals: +4.8%
  • House and garden tools/appliances: +4.8%
  • Footwear: +4.2%
  • Food products: +4.1%
  • Housing maintenance/repair: +3.9%
  • Water supply and housing-related services: +3.5%
  • Tobacco: +3.4%
  • Sugar, jam, honey, chocolate, sweets: +3.1%
  • Personal items: +2.7%

However, some categories saw price decreases:

  • Fuels and lubricants for personal transport: −5.3%
  • Solid fuels (firewood, pellets, etc.): −4.5%
  • Airline tickets: −3.2%

On a month-to-month basis (June vs. May 2025), prices rose 0.7%, driven by:

  • Package holidays: +10.4%
  • Electricity: +5.4%
  • Fruits: +5.1%
  • Coffee, tea, cocoa: +2.3%
  • Fuel and lubricants: +2.1%
  • Alcoholic beverages: +1.7%
  • Meat: +1.4%
  • Hotel services: +1.0%
  • Bread and cereals: +1.0%

The only significant monthly price decline was recorded in vegetables, down 5.6%, contributing to a 0.2% deflationary effect on the monthly HICP.
