Nait Hasani, a sworn MP from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), stated in an interview with Klan Kosova that the Special Court in The Hague was specifically set up to convict the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) rather than to prosecute individual crimes regardless of ethnicity.

According to Hasani, international pressure at the time was overwhelming and politically unbearable, forcing Kosovo’s leaders to accept promises that the court would only target individuals, not the KLA as an organization.

“There was direct pressure, and promises that the court would defend our values and prevent misuse of the KLA in the dock. But this policy was unfair. I personally refused to vote for a court that tries our war,” Hasani said.

He emphasized that no other country in the world has an “ethnic court”, arguing that courts for war crimes should prosecute crimes regardless of ethnicity, language, or religion. In his words, the Kosovo Special Court was predetermined to punish the KLA’s struggle for liberation, not just specific wrongdoers.

Hasani revealed that he had rejected requests from key party figures, including Hashim Thaçi and Kadri Veseli, to support the court’s establishment.
