Outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that the Constitutional Court, in its preliminary ruling, urged political parties to reach an agreement, emphasizing that the court does not resolve political disputes.
Despite this, Kurti said, opposition parties have continued to submit new cases to the Constitutional Court.
“We have offered two compromises. First, regarding the secret ballot: if our candidate, Albulena Haxhiu, is not elected on the first round, we will propose another name. The second compromise was to agree on the voting package for the speaker and deputy speakers, returning to an open ballot.
When the Constitutional Court explicitly stated that political agreements should be made between parliamentary groups because the court does not resolve disputes, opposition parties immediately submitted new cases. If the Constitutional Court says, ‘Sit down and come to an agreement,’ you do not send more cases,” Kurti said.
He added that Vetëvendosje has put forward alternative compromises, while PDK and LDK rushed to the court, acting as if the preliminary ruling did not exist.
Kurti emphasized his willingness to cooperate:
“I have written letters to meet in a spirit of cooperation. It is a loss that the Assembly is not constituted. My powers are limited, but I am working more.”
