European Union officials will not hold meetings inside the building of the Government of Kosovo with the caretaker Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, until the country has a government with a full mandate.
Following the decision of the Supreme Court, which found that Hekuran Murati unlawfully holds two positions – Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament in the Assembly of Kosovo – the EU Office in Kosovo has notified the Government that senior EU officials and representatives of member states will not meet inside the Government building with caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
The caretaker Government of Kosovo has also reacted to this development.
Asked about the EU’s letter, the spokesperson of the caretaker Government, Përparim Kryeziu, told Radio Free Europe that the Prime Minister’s Office is the workplace of Kurti.
“Anyone seeking a meeting with the caretaker Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo must come to the place where the caretaker Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo works,” Kryeziu stated.
“Of course, this does not mean that he cannot hold meetings outside his office, but such arrangements must be agreed upon by both parties. Meetings outside the Prime Minister’s Office have taken place in the past, even when he held a full mandate,” he added.
In addition to Kurti, these senior officials will also refrain from meeting acting ministers inside the Government building until a new government with a full mandate is established.
“In the interest of institutional stability and respect for the rule of law, high-level visitors from EU Member States and institutions will temporarily refrain from holding meetings with the caretaker Prime Minister and ministers inside the Government building of Kosovo, until a Government with a full mandate is in place,” reads the letter published by Klan Kosova, signed by Aivo Orav and dated August 8, 2025.
