A tragic incident shook central Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon, where three police officers were killed and two others were left in critical but stable condition. The news was confirmed by Colonel Christopher Paris, an official with the Pennsylvania State Police.
According to authorities, the gunman was killed after being shot by police. The incident is believed to have occurred during the execution of a court order, a source familiar with the situation told CNN.
The shooting took place shortly after 2 p.m., when 911 operators received an emergency call from North Codorus Township, a rural area about two and a half hours west of Philadelphia. Law enforcement rushed to Haar Road in Spring Grove, a predominantly agricultural neighborhood in York County, known for its small barns and large farmlands.
Dozens of police forces and emergency crews were seen at the scene, while a medical helicopter landed in one of the grass fields to transport the wounded. The area was surrounded by the flashing lights of fire trucks, ambulances, and police patrol cars.
No further details have yet been released on how the incident unfolded. York County Coroner Pamela Gay confirmed to CNN that her office responded to the incident but declined to provide additional information.
FBI agents and officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives also arrived at the scene to support local authorities, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced in a post on X.
“Violence against law enforcement officers is a scourge on our society and never acceptable. Pray for the officers involved,” Bondi wrote.
