Kosovo has received 85,000 doses of seasonal flu vaccines. Elderly citizens and those with chronic illnesses will be able to get vaccinated starting from the first week of October, the Ministry of Health confirmed to Radio Kosovo. Health institutions are calling on citizens to get vaccinated in order to protect themselves from seasonal flu and prevent potential complications.
To safeguard public health, the Ministry of Health secured sufficient doses of seasonal flu vaccines through procurement procedures. Ministry spokesperson Gjylferie Zabeli announced that the vaccines, sourced from leading global brands, have already arrived at the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) depot and will be distributed nationwide according to the NIPH’s vaccination plan.
NIPH spokesperson Era Pireva confirmed that the vaccines have been received and will soon be distributed to vaccination units across the country.
“Vaccination against seasonal flu will start in the first week of October and will be provided daily at vaccination units within the primary healthcare centers in every municipality,” she said.
Family physician Valdet Hashani emphasized the importance of vaccination, especially for high-risk groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, children, individuals with chronic diseases (including diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular conditions), as well as healthcare workers who are in direct contact with patients.
Vaccination strengthens the body’s defenses, making it easier to overcome flu infections. Authorities urge all citizens—particularly vulnerable categories—to take the flu shot as a safe and effective protection against complications during the flu season.
