U.S. President Donald Trump praised his own peacekeeping abilities during a speech to military leaders on Tuesday, emphasizing that conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine remain intense despite his administration’s mediation efforts.
Speaking before military commanders in Quantico, Virginia, Trump stated that Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky should meet privately to resolve the war in Ukraine.
He described the conflict in Ukraine as “the worst since World War II” and expressed his belief that there is a way out: “I think we will succeed,” the president said.
Trump also voiced strong disappointment with the Russian president, asserting that Putin could have ended the war “within a week.”
He added: “I told him, you know, this doesn’t look so good for you. You’ve fought a four-year war that should have lasted a week. Are you a paper tiger?”
In his speech, Trump also mentioned the situation in Gaza, noting that the conflict remains escalated despite the mediation efforts of his administration.
