Kosovo’s acting Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, has commented on the absence of Prime Minister Albin Kurti and his Vetëvendosje Movement from the mass rally held in Tirana in support of former KLA leaders on trial in The Hague.
In an interview for A2 CNN’s “Puls”, Maqedonci stated that while the protest sends an important symbolic message to the international community, true change requires daily, strategic effort.
“This protest alone doesn’t bring change. It’s a symbolic act — but the real defense of the KLA’s just war is achieved through diplomacy, not only in the streets,” Maqedonci emphasized.
He noted that ever since the establishment of the Special Court, there has been a biased approach that has directly affected former KLA commanders currently detained in The Hague.
Maqedonci added that Prime Minister Kurti has continuously raised the issue with international leaders, describing the court as “unjust and a punishment for Kosovo’s liberation war.”
Still, the minister acknowledged that diplomatic lobbying has been insufficient, stressing the need for long-term, consistent engagement to protect the history and justice of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
