Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, stated that the ongoing trial in The Hague against former KLA leaders risks becoming a historical injustice, potentially distorting the truths of Kosovo’s war. She emphasized:

“A victim cannot be unjustly turned into an aggressor, nor an aggressor into a victim.”

Spiropali made these remarks during a visit of Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, to Shkodër, as part of the 28 November celebrations.

The minister highlighted Albania’s steadfast support for Kosovo and stressed that bilateral relations have been strengthened through continuous cooperation:

“Our two governments, basing policymaking on the reality of one land and shared aspirations, have transformed the border from a dividing gap into a bridge of cooperation. Since the joint meeting in Prizren in 2014, 180 agreements have institutionalized our cooperation across multiple sectors, but more needs to be done to fully materialize these relations.”

Spiropali also underscored that Albania and Kosovo must move forward together toward European integration:

“Our commitment this 28 November is to raise our flag proudly in Brussels for Kosovo, which must begin accession talks as soon as possible, where our two flags—representing two states, but in essence one nation—will be present at that table in the European family to which we belong.”

President Osmani’s visit to Shkodër and Spiropali’s statements highlight the unique bond between Kosovo and Albania, emphasizing Albania’s support for Kosovo in both diplomatic and historical matters.
