An emergency meeting was convened in South Mitrovica on Tuesday evening as continuous heavy rainfall caused flooding and heightened risks across several municipalities in Kosovo.

The Mayor of South Mitrovica, Faton Peci, announced that he called an extraordinary emergency meeting to assess the situation and coordinate institutional responses following the worsening weather conditions.

Institutions Placed on Full Alert

Peci stated that local and central government institutions are on high alert, operating in coordination with emergency services, security bodies, and volunteer teams to ensure rapid intervention where necessary.

“Given the deteriorating weather conditions caused by persistent rainfall and the increased risk of flooding in the Mitrovica region, I convened an extraordinary emergency meeting at 9:00 PM with all relevant institutions involved in emergency response and public safety,” Peci wrote on Facebook.

He emphasized that the meeting focused on inter-institutional coordination, assessment of the situation on the ground, and immediate preventive measures.

“As mayor, I am fully prepared to mobilize all available municipal resources to manage this situation,” he added.

Flooding Reported in Multiple Municipalities

The Emergency Management Agency (EMA) confirmed that flooding has affected several municipalities, including Fushë Kosova, Drenas, Malishevë, Rahovec, Klinë, Mitrovica, Vushtrri, Skenderaj, and Gjakova.

Authorities reported flooded yards, basements, and certain road sections, while the situation remains under continuous monitoring by emergency services.

Authorities Urge Caution

Citizens have been urged to avoid flooded areas, report potential dangers, and strictly follow official instructions. While officials say the situation is currently manageable, continued rainfall could worsen conditions in the coming hours.
