Josh Peterson, Acting Deputy Chief of the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo, paid tribute at Reçak on the 27th anniversary of the massacre that took place there.
The U.S. Embassy described the Reçak massacre as an “unimaginable act of horror that shook the world.”
In a statement, the embassy noted:
“Today, Acting Deputy Chief Josh Peterson joined leaders, institutions, and the people of Kosovo in commemorating the victims of the Reçak massacre — an unimaginable act of horror that shocked the world. Let the memory of this tragedy serve as a reminder of our shared duty to protect truth and dignity, and as a call to never forget what the world witnessed.”
The Reçak massacre, which occurred on January 15, 1999, resulted in the brutal killing of 45 unarmed Albanian civilians by Serbian forces, leaving a lasting mark on Kosovo and the international community.
