French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to urge the European Union to activate its anti-coercion instrument if the United States imposes tariffs linked to the Greenland dispute.

This mechanism, which has never been used before, would allow the EU to restrict imports of goods and services as a retaliatory response.

The call has also been backed by Germany’s engineering association VDMA, which warned that any EU capitulation would only encourage further demands from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump has threatened several European countries with 10% tariffs starting in February, citing their opposition to his claims regarding Greenland.
