Former chairman of the Republika Srpska entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, stated that the Dayton Agreement, which ended the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, “has failed,” reports Avaz.
In a post on X following his meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on Monday, Dodik said that “Republika Srpska has the right to defend itself.”
Dodik had visited Israel and Hungary before meeting Vučić in Belgrade on Monday.
“I informed President Vučić that the Dayton Agreement has failed, that Bosnia and Herzegovina has atrophied due to Sarajevo’s unwillingness to respect the rights of Republika Srpska, that the courts have become a tool for revenge, and that Republika Srpska has the right and duty to defend itself and the Serbian people,” Dodik wrote.
The Constitutional Court of Bosnia rejected Dodik’s appeals last November against a decision that barred him from participating in politics and stripped him of his mandate as president of the Republika Srpska entity. Dodik was prohibited from holding political office for six years after opposing the decisions of the High Representative, Christian Schmidt.
At the end of November, Sinisha Karan, a close ally of Dodik, was elected the new president of Republika Srpska.
