Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that TikTok has reopened after a one-year block, emphasizing that this decision was planned in advance and follows a thorough review and cooperation process with the company. According to Rama, the platform is accessible again because new safety mechanisms have been put in place.

“This week, the Council of Ministers decided to lift the TikTok ban. This decision was previously announced, and it comes after TikTok actively engaged in dialogue with us following the block. This is not TikTok forcing us to reverse the ban, but a result of constructive communication and establishing a new framework. Therefore, the Council of Ministers’ decision is not a retreat or surrender, nor is it a blind approval as some have commented,” Rama said.

Rama stressed that the main goal of the previous ban—protecting children and young users—remains central. He explained that TikTok now has:

  • New content filters
  • Effective monitoring and reporting systems
  • Enhanced mechanisms to address violations

“This is about control in the proper sense of the word—not censorship—but ensuring children and young people are protected. The reopening reflects a serious process of review and concrete measures to address safety concerns,” Rama added.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the measures are designed to improve oversight, not limit public access, and that TikTok is now accessible once again under stricter safety protocols.
