Regional tensions have surged dramatically after Jordanian air defenses intercepted and destroyed eight Iranian missiles in the early hours of Thursday, according to state media.

The Jordanian military confirmed that debris from the intercepted missiles fell in various unpopulated locations across the country, resulting in no casualties or significant structural damage.

The Targets: Iran Claims Hits on U.S. Infrastructure

While Amman reported a clean sweep of the incoming threats, state-run media in Tehran offered a highly aggressive counter-narrative, claiming their strikes successfully disrupted U.S. operations:

  • Targeting Al-Azraq Air Base: Iranian state media outlets (IRNA and Press TV) claimed they launched precision drone and missile strikes targeting U.S. communication systems and fuel storage depots located at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base (Al-Azraq) in Jordan.
  • Silence from CENTCOM: The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has yet to release a statement confirming or denying whether any of its military installations inside the kingdom sustained damage.

A Multi-Front Assault Across the Gulf

The missile barrage over Jordan was part of a much broader, coordinated overnight operation targeting multiple Gulf nations hosting U.S. military personnel.

1. Kuwait Under Attack

The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army confirmed that its air defenses were actively “engaging hostile enemy drone targets” during the night. Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency claimed responsibility, asserting that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had targeted U.S. military infrastructure housed at domestic bases in Kuwait.

2. Sirens Blare in Bahrain

In Bahrain—home to the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet—the Ministry of Interior issued urgent public warnings as air defense sirens echoed through the capital. Authorities instructed residents to seek shelter immediately as regional defense systems engaged incoming aerial targets.

Why This Escalation Matters Politically

This direct targeting of regional Arab states hosting U.S. bases marks a dangerous turning point. By actively launching missiles and drones into the airspace of Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain, Tehran is testing the boundaries of regional air defense networks while attempting to directly impose a high price on the U.S. military footprint in the Middle East.
