Five individuals, including two customs officers, have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling medicines into Kosovo without proper procedures. According to a report by the Kosovo Police, the total value of the seized medicines is approximately €150,000.

In a statement, the Kosovo Police revealed that three individuals were initially detained by officers from the Fushë-Kosovë Police Station. These suspects were found in possession of a large quantity of medicines, which were allegedly brought into the country through Pristina International Airport without following the required customs procedures.

Following the identification and documentation of the medicines, including their quantities and types, inspectors assessed that the total value of the seized goods is around €150,000. The detained individuals include two Turkish nationals and one Kosovar. They are facing charges related to “the production and distribution of harmful medical products” and “smuggling of goods”.

After being interviewed by police, the three suspects were remanded in custody following a decision from the prosecutor.

Following these arrests, two customs officers working at the airport were interviewed under suspicion of abuse of office. One of the officers was placed in custody, while the other was released following the regular procedures.

This case highlights ongoing concerns surrounding smuggling operations at Kosovo’s borders and the vital role of customs authorities in preventing illicit trade. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the origins and distribution network of the seized contraband medicines.
