Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, has met with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos in Dublin, reaffirming Albania’s determination to maintain the momentum of its negotiations for European Union membership.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the General Affairs Council, where the two discussed the current dynamics of Albania’s accession process, its prospects and, above all, the importance of maintaining the pace and momentum of negotiations.
In a post on X, Hoxha said Albania would continue to make its case wherever EU enlargement is being discussed.
“We will never miss an opportunity to be present wherever enlargement is being discussed to present Albania’s case; and wherever enlargement is on the agenda, @MartaKosEU is there to move the process forward,” Hoxha wrote.
He said the discussions focused on the current state of the accession process and the need to preserve its momentum.
Albania aims to close as many negotiation chapters as possible
Hoxha stressed that Albania’s objective remains clear: to move forward decisively and close as many negotiation chapters as possible this year, while continuing to implement the necessary reforms and commitments.
“We remain fully focused on the work ahead and determined to maintain the pace of the negotiations,” he said.
The Albanian government has repeatedly emphasized that the country’s EU accession path must remain based on concrete reforms and results. Hoxha has also stressed the importance of maintaining credibility and momentum in the enlargement process.
The meeting with Kos comes as Albania continues to advance through its EU accession negotiations, with Tirana seeking to accelerate the process and demonstrate further progress on reforms.
“Enlargement is about merit, momentum and results. Albania is ready for all three,” Hoxha said.
