Iran’s latest proposal to end the US-Israel war was reasonable and generous, said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei today, after rejection by US President Donald Trump, CNN reports.

“Everything we proposed in our text consisted of reasonable demands, responsible requests, and generous proposals—not only for Iran’s national interests, but for the good, stability, and security of the entire region and the world,” Baghaei said during a press conference broadcast by Iranian television.

Trump called Iran’s proposal “completely unacceptable.”

Tehran’s demands included ending the war in the region, stopping what Baghaei described as “maritime piracy against Iranian ships,” and releasing Iranian assets that have been “frozen in foreign banks due to US pressure,” the Iranian official said.

Iranian state media reported that the counter-proposal also included recognition of sovereignty over the blocked Strait of Hormuz and compensation for war damages.

“As for the continuation of the process, we have shown that despite all obstacles, we are focused on Iran’s national interests. We will act in whatever way is necessary to secure our interests,” Baghaei said, responding to Trump’s opposition to the Iranian plan.
