The Kosovo Assembly has adopted a resolution with 67 votes in favour addressing the recent killing of a woman in Vitomiricë, near Peja, other cases of femicide, domestic violence against women and children, and institutional responsibility for preventing such crimes.

The resolution highlights the urgent need to prevent gender-based violence, strengthen institutional mechanisms and safeguard women’s lives and security.

It stresses the importance of an effective institutional response to domestic violence, calling for every report to be treated seriously and for concrete measures to be taken to prevent violence from escalating to fatal consequences.

The resolution also emphasises the responsibility of public institutions to ensure victims receive adequate protection, improve cooperation between relevant authorities and guarantee that women and children have access to the support and assistance they need.

Its adoption comes amid renewed public scrutiny of how Kosovo’s institutions handle domestic violence reports and protect people at risk, following the killing in Vitomiricë.
