A group of citizens gathered outside the headquarters of Serbian television station Pink in Belgrade on Monday evening, throwing eggs at the building as police officers formed a cordon at the entrance.
According to a reporter from the Belgrade-based newspaper Danas, demonstrators gathered outside the station and sang the song “Izađi mala” while continuing to throw eggs at the building.
Police officers who had initially been positioned on the street withdrew and formed a line in front of the entrance to the television station. Drivers passing the gathering honked their horns in support of the protesters.
Earlier confrontation at Informer TV
The gathering outside Pink followed an earlier demonstration at the headquarters of Serbian broadcaster and news portal Informer, where thousands of citizens assembled on Monday evening.
The protest escalated after a group of people entered Informer’s premises during a live broadcast and confronted editor-in-chief Dragan J. Vučićević. Reports said several computers were damaged inside the newsroom.
Police formed cordons around the building as some demonstrators attempted to push through. Officers later moved the crowd back and evacuated Vučićević and people present at the premises.
The gatherings outside the two media outlets took place one day after Serbia’s snap parliamentary elections, held on October 25, amid heightened political tensions following the opposition Student List’s reported victory.
