The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK) has rejected a request by former Serbian prosecutors and their support staff to return to Kosovo’s prosecutorial system, nearly four years after they resigned during the collective withdrawal of Serb officials from Kosovo’s institutions.

The decision was taken during the KPK meeting held on Monday.

The former prosecutors had sought reinstatement to their previous positions after resigning in November 2022, when Serbian representatives collectively withdrew from Kosovo’s institutions in the country’s northern municipalities.

Following deliberations, the Prosecutorial Council voted to reject the request. The proposal was defeated by four votes in favor of rejection and three against, meaning the former Serbian prosecutors and their support staff will not be reinstated.

The KPK meeting was still ongoing at the time of publication, with further details expected.

According to earlier reporting by KALLXO.com, several Serbian judges and prosecutors submitted requests to return to their positions despite having resigned nearly four years ago, with their resignations reportedly never being formally processed.

On November 5, 2022, representatives of the Serb community, led by the Serb List party, announced a coordinated withdrawal from Kosovo’s institutions, including central and local government bodies, the judiciary and the police.

At the time, Serb List leader Goran Rakić said the boycott would remain in effect until Prishtina implemented previously reached agreements, withdrew its vehicle license plate policy, and established the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities in line with agreements reached during the EU-facilitated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

The mass resignations followed the suspension of Nenad Đurić, then the Kosovo Police regional commander for the north, after he refused to enforce fines against drivers using Serbian-issued vehicle registration plates.
