Kosovo’s Ambassador to Brussels, Agron Bajrami, has responded to the European Union with three clarifications regarding the Kosovo Police operation to close parallel structures in several regions on Wednesday.

Bajrami explained that these structures were illegal and operated by Serbia, that there was no agreement on them, and that the operation did not provoke tensions.

“For clarification: There are no Serbia-backed structures in Kosovo; these were illegal structures run by Serbia. There is no agreement that defines negotiations on the future of these structures. Today, the Kosovo Police operation did not cause tensions,” Bajrami wrote on the X platform.

The European Union criticized Kosovo for the closure of the parallel structures, stating that the closure of “Serbia-backed” structures contradicts Kosovo’s obligations to the EU. In its response, the EU mentioned that while conclusions suggest that the EU will gradually lift measures in line with Kosovo’s steps to de-escalate tensions in the north, “these actions are not favorable for this purpose.”

The EU further emphasized that the status of Serbia-backed structures should be resolved through dialogue.

On Wednesday, the Kosovo Police closed parallel Serbian communes in Lipjan, Obiliq, Prishtina, Fushë-Kosovë, Vushtrri, Novobërdë, Kamenicë, Viti, Rahovec, Skenderaj, as well as illegal post offices and tax offices.
