Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti met with the new head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, as Prishtina reaffirmed its commitment to closer cooperation with the EU and progress toward membership.
Kurti welcomed Schuebel to Kosovo and congratulated him on his new post, expressing his readiness for close cooperation. Schuebel, in turn, congratulated Kurti on his re-election as prime minister and on the formation of the new government.
During the meeting, Kurti emphasized that Kosovo remains committed to joining the European Union through a merit-based accession process.
He said Kosovo is fully aligned with the EU’s foreign and security policy and shares the bloc’s values and vision. Kurti also pointed to what he described as continued progress in strengthening democracy, human rights and freedoms, and the rule of law.
The prime minister stressed the importance of institutional stability for advancing Kosovo’s reform agenda and its European integration process.
According to Kurti, the reforms required for EU integration are largely legislative in nature and therefore require a fully functioning Assembly capable of adopting the necessary legislation.
The two officials also discussed Kosovo’s economic development, increasing investment and government programs aimed at improving citizens’ welfare, employment and broader economic opportunities.
The meeting comes as Kosovo’s newly formed institutions seek to advance reforms and strengthen engagement with the European Union following the recent formation of the new government.
