The National Center for Border Management of the Republic of Kosovo has issued an urgent travel advisory following a total collapse of the entry and exit registration system on the North Macedonian side of the border.
In response to the technical failure, the Border Police of North Macedonia (RMV) have completely halted all traffic, temporarily freezing the movement of individuals, passenger cars, and commercial buses.
According to the official announcement, the sudden suspension of operations has already led to the formation of extensive vehicle queues at the primary border crossing points between the two nations.
“We highly recommend that travelers redirect their routes and utilize the Stančić-Belanovce or Globočica border crossing points instead,” the National Center for Border Management stated. “We will provide timely updates as soon as there are any changes to the current situation.”
The sudden system failure coincides with mounting regional tensions. Ethnic Albanian student organizations have organized a major protest in the capital city of Skopje, scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM today. The demonstrators are demanding legal guarantees and institutional enforcement for the official use of the Albanian language, specifically regarding state-level examinations. It remains unconfirmed whether the current border system failure is connected to the ongoing domestic unrest or infrastructure overloads related to the demonstrations.
