Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a temporary Easter ceasefire in Ukraine, ordering a halt to all Russian military operations.
The announcement was made through the Kremlin’s official Telegram channel, where Putin stated that the ceasefire would begin at 6:00 p.m. Moscow time (5:00 p.m. CET) today and last until midnight between Sunday and Monday.
“Guided by humanitarian concerns, from today at 18:00 until midnight on Easter Monday, the Russian side declares an Easter ceasefire. I order the suspension of all military actions during this period,” said Putin, as quoted by Index.hr.
Russia Calls on Ukraine to Respond
Moscow emphasized that it expects Ukraine to follow suit, although Kyiv has not yet issued an official response to the proposal.
Despite the temporary ceasefire, the Kremlin noted that Russian forces would remain on high alert.
“Our units must remain prepared to repel any violations of the ceasefire, enemy provocations, or other aggressive actions,” the statement added.
This move comes as international observers and humanitarian groups continue to push for peaceful pauses in conflict during religious holidays, but the effectiveness of such ceasefires has often been short-lived in the past.
