Residents living near the capital area should prepare for audible emergency sirens tomorrow, though local authorities stress there is absolutely no reason for panic.

The Municipality of Obiliq issued an official public notice announcing that technical testing on the integrated emergency alarm system at the “Kosova B” Power Plant is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

The technical diagnostic run will be carried out within a restricted two-hour window, lasting from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Routine Maintenance, No Real Danger

Municipal representatives clarified that various warning sirens will sound intermittently during the testing window. These sirens are strictly part of standard industrial safety compliance and automated system upgrades managed by the Energy Corporation of Kosovo (KEK).

“We kindly ask citizens for their understanding and urge them not to panic,” the official municipal statement reads, emphasizing that the drills pose zero risk to the surrounding communities.

The routine infrastructure testing coincides with recently launched, long-awaited environmental overhaul projects at the aging lignite facility, including the ongoing installation of new electrostatic precipitators and DeNOx reduction systems designed to curb local air pollution.
