Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi has sent a message to citizens following the guilty verdict delivered on September 16 in The Hague, through his lead defence counsel, Luka Misetic.
Thaçi, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, will continue his legal battle by appealing the judgment.
Misetic announced this in his first statement following the verdict, also conveying Thaçi’s gratitude for the support he has received throughout the proceedings.
“Hashim Thaçi wishes to express his sincere gratitude for the extraordinary support that he, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi have received from the citizens of Kosovo and from international supporters,” Misetic wrote.
According to Misetic, Thaçi has called on the people of Kosovo to remain calm following yesterday’s decision.
“He calls on the citizens of Kosovo to remain calm in response to yesterday’s injustice,” Misetic said in the statement.
Thaçi’s defence has previously announced that it will appeal the judgment, challenging the Trial Panel’s findings and alleging procedural violations and errors in the assessment of evidence.
