Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has stated that Ukraine will not sign a minerals agreement with the United States without security guarantees.
Shmyhal mentioned that a “virtually final version” of the agreement has been agreed upon after two weeks of intensive negotiations with the U.S., according to the BBC.
Speaking to Ukrainian TV, Shmyhal said that the preliminary agreement envisions the creation of an “investment fund” for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Kyiv and Washington will manage the fund under “equal conditions,” he added, emphasizing that the U.S. supports Ukraine’s efforts to obtain security guarantees.
“Neither the President of Ukraine nor the Ukrainian government will consider or sign the agreement without security guarantees for Ukraine,” Shmyhal stated.
Meanwhile, Russian attacks continued on Wednesday. At least five people were killed and eight others injured in a strike on the eastern city of Kostyantynivka, according to the head of the Donetsk region.
