The United States has made clear that it wants an orderly transition of power in Serbia as the country undergoes a change of government.
In a statement to The Pavlovic Today, a spokesperson for the US State Department confirmed on Tuesday that Washington supports an “orderly transition” from Serbia’s outgoing government to the new administration that will be formed.
“We support an orderly transition between the outgoing government and the new government that will be formed,” the spokesperson stated.
At the same time, the US State Department is signalling Washington’s willingness to deepen the relations established during Vučić’s tenure with Serbia’s newly elected leadership.
“We look forward to expanding our partnership with Serbia and engaging with its newly elected members of parliament, as we continue to build on the momentum established over the past year, including the launch of the Strategic Dialogue,” the spokesperson told The Pavlovic Today.
This reiterated statement follows election night on October 25, when Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat to the Student List, marking a decisive political turning point for Serbia.
As first reported by The Pavlovic Today, Washington acknowledged both the preliminary election results and Vučić’s concession of defeat.
“We welcome the participation of the Serbian people in their parliamentary elections,” the State Department spokesperson said at the time. “We have seen the preliminary results, including former President Vučić’s concession of defeat.”
However, Washington’s message goes beyond a diplomatic response to the election outcome.
The US State Department has made clear that the political transition in Belgrade represents an opportunity to further develop relations between the two countries, rather than bring them to an end.
The reference to the Strategic Dialogue is particularly significant. Washington is signalling that the framework for closer US-Serbia cooperation remains fully in place.
For Serbia’s incoming government, the diplomatic message is clear: Washington is ready to cooperate, the Strategic Dialogue remains on the table, and the next chapter of US-Serbia relations is already beginning to take shape.
