Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the European Union of attempting to force Serbia to join its conflict against Russia as a condition for European integration.
According to Lavrov, in the context of Belgrade’s EU accession efforts, Moscow questioned what Serbia intended to do regarding two Brussels ultimatums: recognizing Kosovo’s independence and aligning with the EU’s foreign and security policies, including joining anti-Russian sanctions.
“This issue remains relevant because the Brussels bureaucracy cannot fail to understand that Serbia is in a difficult situation. I have no doubt that Brussels’ demands for Serbia to fully support EU foreign and security policies effectively mean joining the war in Ukraine,” Lavrov said.
