Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, Shaip Kamberi, commenting on Serbia’s military exercises near the border with Kosovo, stated that the role of the international community is crucial in such cases to maintain stability in the region.
“The development of military exercises by Serbia in the territory of the Bujanovac Municipality, near the border with the Republic of Kosovo, represents a matter of importance for the regional security environment. Such activities, especially when conducted near populated areas and involving air capabilities, affect local communities’ perceptions of security, particularly among Albanians in the Preševo Valley. In the context of regional security, these developments can be interpreted as factors that increase tensions and reduce trust among local actors.”
Considering the importance of long-term stability in the Western Balkans, Kamberi said it is essential to act with restraint and in accordance with the principles of cooperative security.
“In this regard, the role of the international community is key to encouraging constructive dialogue, transparency, and avoiding actions that may be perceived as provocative. Maintaining a stable and predictable security environment requires continuous commitment to respecting international norms and strengthening crisis prevention mechanisms. The increase of KFOR forces is of primary importance.”
Finally, Kamberi called on NATO to reconsider the decision regarding the Ground Safety Zone.
“Given the ongoing provocations by Vučić’s regime against Kosovo and Albanians in the Preševo Valley, NATO should consider reviewing the decision on the Ground Safety Zone.”
