U.S. President Donald Trump said he had urged Israel not to target Iran’s oil and gas fields.
This week, Israeli strikes triggered a fire at South Pars, the world’s largest gas field located in Iran.
Trump said he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “I told him, don’t do it. And he won’t do it,” he was quoted as saying.
He added that he had not been informed in advance about the strike—contradicting a U.S. official who spoke to NBC News.
