“The stance of Europe regarding the war in Iran risks prompting U.S. President Donald Trump to withdraw from the conflict in Ukraine,” said former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton, criticizing the EU’s response to the situation in the Middle East.

In an interview with Euronews, Bolton, who also previously served as U.S. Ambassador to the UN, referred to the Iran conflict as “Europe’s war.”

“Europe is just as much, if not more, at risk from nuclear attacks if Iran acquires nuclear weapons,” Bolton said.

“It has the missile capability to strike Central and Eastern Europe—not the United States,” he added.

He also described the lack of political will across the EU to participate in the fight against Iran as a “mistake.”

His comments came as the U.S.-Israel conflict in Iran, which has spread to other parts of the Middle East, approaches its fourth week.
