A protest was held in front of the Embassy of North Macedonia in Pristina, where students from Kosovo universities voiced support for Albanian students in North Macedonia regarding their right to take the jurisprudence exam in the Albanian language.
Students and student parliament representatives described the situation as a serious violation of equality and dignity, arguing that language rights are a fundamental right, not a political privilege.
Blerta Bajrami, head of the Student Council of the Faculty of Law at the University of Pristina, said this right is guaranteed by law and should not depend on political decisions. She stressed that in 2026 it is unacceptable for professional exams to be contested on language grounds, adding that no jurist becomes less professional by being tested in their mother tongue.
Emotional moments were also recorded during the speech of Vjesa Qeshi from the University of Prizren, who displayed the flag of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) in front of the crowd, prompting chants from participants.
She stated that the Albanian language is not a privilege but a fundamental right achieved through generations of sacrifice.
Other student representatives, including Granit Spahiu and Drenar Humolli, emphasized that language is central to identity and that democratic societies in the Western Balkans must be built on inclusion rather than discrimination.
The protest concluded with chants of unity and messages of support for Albanian students in North Macedonia, with organizers pledging continued solidarity until their language rights are fully respected.
